Description
Clinical Sports Massage is a focused, hands-on course designed to equip massage therapists with the skills needed to assess and treat some of the most common overuse injuries seen in athletic and active populations. Through a blend of applied anatomy, clinical reasoning, and targeted soft-tissue techniques, participants will learn to work effectively with IT band syndrome, golfer’s elbow, tennis elbow, and tibial stress syndrome.
This course emphasizes both assessment and application. Students will explore the key anatomical structures and biomechanical factors underlying each condition and learn to distinguish typical overuse presentations from red flags that warrant medical referral. Using a systematic approach, participants will practice gathering relevant client history, performing regional assessments, and applying appropriate sports massage interventions.
Through guided instruction and supervised practice, students will develop proficiency in a range of techniques—including stripping, cross-fiber friction, myofascial release, PNF stretching, and active engagement methods—and learn to integrate these tools into cohesive, condition-specific treatment sequences. The course also covers how to modify pressure, positioning, and sequencing for athletes in different phases of training, including pre-event preparation, post-event recovery, and ongoing maintenance.
By the end of this course, therapists will be able to approach common athletic injuries with clarity, confidence, and clinical precision, enhancing outcomes for clients seeking performance support, injury prevention, or rehabilitation.
