Becki Garza, a seasoned herbalist formerly based in Tucson, AZ, now calls Texas home. She is the proud owner of La Yerberia Botanicals, a business specializing in custom herbal formulations tailored for healthcare providers, massage therapists, and spas. Originally hailing from the South Texas-Mexico border, Becki’s journey into herbalism began during a college internship on a wildlife refuge, where she cataloged and studied Sonoran Desert plants for an herbarium. Before dedicating herself entirely to herbalism, she worked as a high school biology teacher and at an environmental education center. In 2004, Becki’s passion for education and tradition led her class to secure a grant from The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. This initiative enabled them to interview Tohono O’odham elders and youth about their traditional uses of Creosote Bush (Larrea tridentata), deepening her connection to the rich heritage of herbal knowledge.
